the Feather
The Feather is based on an ancient tribal practice of communication, problem solving and conflict resolution whereby elders and community members gather in a circle and speak their mind. Whomever holds the Feather has the floor, and not until the Feather is passed may another speak. As important as the words of the speaker, so too are the ears of the listener, who must withhold judgement and fully open themselves to what is being said.
Herein the Circle is a working symbol of our connection to each other and our world. It is through our free and open exchange within the Circle that health and harmony is achieved and maintained for the whole community. With great honor and respect we sit within the Circle and however carefully we may choose our words, we do so foremost with honesty and the best intentions for our families and our lands, all peoples and the Earth, all creatures and all Creation.
